Could Herbal Medicines Be More Effective in Treating Osteoporosis Than Fosamax?

. By Charles Benson

According to full-time herbalist Ocoee Miller, treating osteoporosis does not have to involve pharmaceutical drugs like Fosamax, the Lawrence Journal-World reports.

"It's only in this country that people rush to chemical medicines and consider that first," Miller told the news source. "About 85 percent of people in the world use herbal medicines as their healing modality of choice. It's an ancient sacred wisdom that goes back thousands of years and has been proven on every continent in every culture."

Miller, who lives near Lone Star, Kansas, will reportedly be teaching a class in the coming days called "Herbs Build Better Bones." She calls plants "little green miracles," and says that there are a number of herbs and supplements that can help bone structure in a variety of ways.

Miller, who has taught at the Community Mercantile in Lawrence, Kansas, for 10 years, explained that many people suffer from weak bones due to a lack of consuming wholesome foods and not exercising enough.

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, the use of Fosamax, which is also used to treat osteoporosis, can result in "atypical fractures of the thigh," as well as numbness in the jaw.
