New York Woman Sues Drugmaker over Darvocet Side Effects

A 31-year-old woman from Queens, New York, is suing drugmaker Xanodyne after experiencing Darvocet side effects, the New York Daily News reports.

Kristine Esposito claims she went to the hospital earlier this year after she felt an irregular heartbeat, according to the news provider. Doctors diagnosed her with heart arrhythmia, a condition that can be potentially fatal, according to Esposito's attorney.

The woman was reportedly taking the painkilling drug Darvocet for abdominal pain. According to the news source, the FDA pulled the drug from the market in November due to evidence that it can cause cardiac issues such as arrhythmia.

"She's at risk for future health issues," her attorney said. "She's somebody whose heart no longer beats like yours or mine."

Esposito is reportedly seeking $10 million in damages. A spokesman for Xanodyne declined to comment, according to the news provider.

According to the Mayo Clinic, heart arrhythmia can occur when "the electrical impulses in your heart that coordinate your heartbeats don't function properly."
