Accutane IBD Trial Gets Underway in New Jersey

. By Charles Benson

The Accutane IBD trial in Atlantic City, New Jersey, involving actor James Marshall recently got underway with the opening statement from the defense attorneys, according to the Courtroom View Network.

The news source reports that the attorneys for drugmaker Roche said the company sufficiently warned the dermatologists of the three plaintiffs involved in the case about the risks of Accutane. The lawyer said that the warning of the medication possibly leading to inflammatory bowel disease was both present and accurate, according to the news provider.

Additionally, the lawyer claimed that none of the three plaintiffs developed IBD as a result of taking Accutane. He said that Marshall, specifically, had the condition at least seven years prior to taking the medication, according to the news source.

During the opening of the trial, the defense attorney added that Roche was committed to ensuring the safety of patients taking Accutane.

According to the Mayo Clinic, more than 1.5 million Americans suffer from Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, which are the most common forms of IBD.
