Potential $5M Settlement Reached in LegalZoom Class Action

Jefferson City, MO: A $5 million settlement has been proposed in the consumer fraud class action lawsuit pending against LegalZoom, a California-based vendor of legal documents. The class action, filed by a Missouri resident, alleges that LegalZoom is not licensed to provide legal documents in Missouri. The suit is seeking reimbursement of three times what class members paid for their documents.

LegalZoom began roughly a decade ago and provides people with legal documents including wills, trademarks, and incorporation paperwork. The documentation is specific to the laws in each state. The documents are tailored to customers' needs through an online question process.

LegalZoom issued a statement saying that the proposed settlement contains no admission of any wrongdoing.
