Jury Awards $600.000 in DSHS Civil Suit

Olympia, WA: A former foster child who suffered sex abuse as a child in Wenatchee has been awarded a $600,000 settlement by an Olympia county jury hearing her suit.

The jury found that the state Department of Social and Health Services and a former DSHS counselor, Connie Saracino, were neglignet in that they failed to act expediently in removing the then 11-year old child from danger. She was living in the home of a former Wenatchee police detective following allegations of neglect.

Melinda Everett, the plaintiff, is now 28 years of age.
