Woman Awarded $500K in Gym Accident

Miami, FL: A $503,399 settlement has been awarded to Dawn Beauchamp who sustained lower back injuries when the bench she was using at a Gold's Gym collapsed.

Beauchamp, then 42, was performing curls at the gym while seated on an adjustable bench when it collapsed. Beauchamp claimed the gym failed to properly maintain the seat, resulting in a lumbar herniation that required two surgeries. The gym denied any problem with the seat and claimed that if it did collapse, it was because Beauchamp failed to properly secure it.

The jury found Beauchamp 30 percent liable, which reduced the $889,198 award along with another setoff.
