Woman Awarded $5.6M for Fall in McDonald's

Maui, HW: A woman who fractured her spine after fallling at a McDonald's restaurant in Kahului has been awarded a $5.6 million settlement by the jury hearing her case.

In November 2007,Beverly Munguia, then 57, slipped and fell, resulting in a burst compression fracture of the L1 vertebra. She underwent a lumbar fusion, but claimed she was left with a permanent curve in her back, which put her in a wheelchair. Munguia claimed that employees of Grelyn of Maui LLC failed to timely and properly clean the floor, causing her to slip on spilled food.
