Jury Awards Car Accident Victim $1M

Los Angeles, CA: A US Marine who was injured in a car crash on the freeway in California has been awarded a $1,009,105 settlement by the jury hearing his case. Joshua Heller, who was 34 at the time of the accident, alleged in his suit that his career in the Marines would be shortened as a result of the accident, which injured his back, neck, shoulders, hip and ankles, and has left him with on-going range-of motion-issues.

The accident happened on December 23, 2003, and his resulting injuries and treatment resulted in his loss of seniority and his leaving the Marines 10 years earlier than originally planned.

The defence admitted liability, but argued that impact was too minor to cause such damage, that Heller hurt himself after the subject crash and that the plaintiff could retrain and have a lucrative alternative career. Due to a high-low agreement, Heller recovered $1 million.
