Katrina Victims Win Insurance Pay OutA couple who lost their retirement home and outbuildings in the catastrophic hurricane Katrina have been awarded $910,000 including $86,000 each for pain and suffering. The decision was made by a panel of jurors, and it is the maximum award their homeowner insurance policy can pay.Earlier, the couple's insurance company denied all but $46,000 of their insurance claims. This is the first Katrina insurance case to be heard in Jackson County, and among the first to be heard by a jury in a state court.
