Catalyst Spill Pollution
Denver, CO: (Apr-22-08) Forty seven current and former Newcastle area residents brought a lawsuit against Denver based Wyoming Refinery Co., alleging that a 2002 catalyst spill and other pollution from its refinery in Newcastle caused them inconveniences. The suit stated that there were complaints that emissions from the refinery aggravate and may even cause a number of health problems in the northeast Wyoming community. The spill in March 2002 was followed by another the next month, sparking even more scrutiny of the plant's emissions.
Sources stated that the two sides had reached a settlement agreement, though the details of the deal were not disclosed. Court records show that the catalyst spill cost Wyoming Refining a $20,000 penalty, though the amount that was paid to the residents was sealed due to confidentiality reasons.
