Worker Harassment

Knox County, TN: (Mar-02-08) A school maintenance worker brought a lawsuit against the Knox County School District and Robert Bratton, a school board member, alleging that she was sexually harassed by Bratton. The South Doyle Middle School worker alleged that Bratton grabbed her in the school's hallway and made unwanted advances. Records show that Bratton has consistently denied the allegations that he sexually harassed anyone. The suit stated that the woman was aggrieved and felt that she had been harassed and that the school district did not handle her complaint properly.

Sources on both sides revealed that the parties had reached a settlement in which the Knox County School District agreed to pay $21,000 to resolve allegations. The claim against the Board of Education has been settled with the $21,000 payout, while the claim against Bratton has been settled for $3,000 solely to avoid the risks and costs associated with protracted litigation. School spokespersons stated that the suit has been an unpleasant experience for both parties. While the parties do not agree on the facts of what occurred, they have entered into a settlement agreement to put this unfortunate incident behind them. [WBIR NEWS: WORKER HARASSMENT]
