Celebrity Maid

Phoenix, AZ: (Feb-20-08) Violet D'Souza, a maid, brought charges against celebrity model Liz Hurley, and her millionaire husband Arun Nayer, alleging that she was underpaid, when Hurley paid her just $2.70 an hour. The suit stated that D'Souza worked up to seven days a week at the couple's London home, sometimes starting the day at 7:30 a.m. and not finishing until 3 a.m. the next morning. For her work, she claimed she got just $193 a week, which works out between £1.40 and £1.60 (US $2.70-$3.09) an hour, far below the UK minimum wage of £5.52 (US $10.65). Her job allegedly included cleaning, cooking, and baby sitting Hurley's five-year-old son Damian.

As part of a settlement reached, D'souza received a five-figure payout. Under the terms of the deal, D'Souza is forbidden from discussing details of the settlement. D'Souza was also offered airline tickets as part of compensation. Reports stated that Hurley has $25 million fortune. D'Souza has now dropped her claims after receiving the payout.
