School Misrepresentation

Harrisburg, PA: (Feb-19-08) The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office brought charges against Lehigh Valley College, a for-profit college near Allentown that plans to close soon, alleging that it violated consumer protection laws. The suit claimed that Lehigh Valley College misrepresented information about student loans, job placement, and the ability to transfer credits elsewhere. In its defense, the college stated that it didn't break any laws and it cooperated with the investigation. Sources close to the case stated that as part of a settlement reached between the two parties, the college's owners signed an agreement in which the owners agreed to pay $200,000 to settle the allegations. College officials said that the college had announced it planned to close by the end of 2009. It was formerly known as the Allentown Business School. [CBS NEWS: SCHOOL MISREPRESENTATION]

I graduated from NEC - ABS in January 1994 and I'm still paying on loans from that time. I seen in an article that ABS was one of many colleges that students were given loan forgiveness relief for defrauding or misleading their students!

https://thecollegeinvestor.com/40244/for-profit-college-student-loan-forgiveness-list/

So I applied for the debt relief in Oct 2022 and still haven't heard anything and AES has been charging me since before the pause on student loan payments came to an end, incurring more interest and added fees for non payment!
The other issue is my loans changed the school name from NEC (National Education Center - ABS (Allentown Business School) to Lehigh Valley College!!! I never attended Lehigh Valley College, they took over after I graduated from ABS! I was 20 yrs old, single mom of 1 and they screwed me over with loans! I was told at least 3xs during my time there that my grants didn't come thru on time and that I needed to take out a loan in order to start the new semester and when my grants came through they'd pay off the loans, that never happened! I was young, vulnerable and didn't realize the issue till years later, due to not finding a job after I graduated, I couldn't pay the loans, so I kept asking for a forbearance/hardship. Then when I could start paying something, I worked out an amount I could afford, never looking at my financial responsibilities, until years later.
How could the loan companies changed my school, it shouldn't of mattered that Lehigh Valley College bought out ABS, I graduated from NEC-ABS, not Lehigh Valley College! This is so damn shady! Why is nothing being done about it! People are suffering financially because the school(s) defrauded and mislead young vulnerable adults, lying about their financial situations and promising them things that never happened, such as job placement, transferring of credits and so forth!!!!

I graduated in 1999 and I came out with one job offer from an insurance company which I could have gotten without the so called degree that I have. 20 something years later I'm not able to do anything with that degree. The credits aren't even accepted at any other college. Which I was told they would. I have 40,000 plus in college debt. I could never afford to make the payments that I was given. I blew through my forbearances and deferment. What can I do with all this debt that clearly did nothing for me.

Apparently, an Associates degree from Lehigh Valley College is over $100,000. I am in a continuous battle over this.. I don't know what to do! This is literally ruining my life.

I was never notified about the law suit and I have a big loan that I feel I should have been involved knowing about. Who can I contact to find out if I can get some help. I believe I left there in 2004

I was the last class to graduate from Lehigh Valley College for my Associate's in applied science for medical assistanting. They lied right at the door with what kind of great paying job you would get after graduation and taking out the most each semester with student loans! Very sad as a young single mother of 3 trying to better myself they took advantage of that and sadly I still owe thousands upon thousands because of them! Would be great if those would be on the list to be forgiven!!

This school should be included in loan forgiveness. All the evidence is there on the poor loan practices and misleading information they provided. I graduated in 2007 with an associates degree and still owe 70,000.

I attended Lehigh Valley College from 2006 through 2008. I had to leave twice due to medical problems. The 2nd time was in early 2008, and by the time I was ready to return, they were closed. From 2010 through 2020 I had over $20,000 stolen out of my Social Security disability benefits(I've been permanently disabled since 2003 due to irreversible neurological symptoms from irreparable damage to my spinal cord due to a congenital malformation of the cervical vertebrae, and end-stage renal failure) because of this fraudulent "debt" that this school burdened me with and then abandoned me. What can I do now?

I attended Allentown Business School in the Computer Technology Program. It was a told waste of time and money. They told you that you would be able to get a job upon graduation which was not true. The first class i attended was very well taught after that the rest were just a joke. The teachers would give us the answers to the test prior to the test or they would give an open book test so no one would fail. I do not feel that I learned anything that would help me get a job in the IT field. I'm still struggling with student loans because of this terrible school.

I attended ABSand I’m still paying off loans. I heard about the suit and filed when I received the paperwork. Never heard anything. Just heard that the suit had been settled. Is there anyway I can get my student loans forgiven. Please can anyone let me know who to contact. Thanks.

Why isn't this school listed on the new Navient lawsuit?? Everyone who attended this school and was duped into a subprime loan should be entitled to forgiveness and restitution.

I attended ABS From 1997 to 1998. I left when I found out that this fool was non-credited. I still owe roughly $15,000 to this day and would be interested if I can have this loan forgiven or monetary reimbursement.

Hello,

I enrolled in 2001-2003. Is there currently any relief available for student debt from ABS. I was young and desperate not realizing that I had more than 5 loans. I found this out when the banks were reaching out to me asking for payments. Wells Fargo was one of them. I assumed financial aid would cover the tuition since I had 4 children at the time. Not one time I was told that I would be paying out of pocket

Hello..i attended from 98 to 99...is there monetary vue available?

I attended ABS aka Lehigh Valley College and still burdened with debt. I was told the job opportunities were great with the Diploma program. However, the next class coming into ABS taking the same classes/programs was earning a Associates Degree. I was told my classes would count as credits toward a college to transfer. What a joke! I could never work as a MA because most Dr offices / hospitals wanted LPN/RN and I didn't have a degee.

I too did not know that there was suite against them. I am currently being sued by the lender to due the fact that I am unable to pay the money back. I attended in 2002-2003. The school was a joke and then when they moved to the other building I though things would change but I guess not.

I also went to Allentown Business School from 2002 to 4004. I was told I would get an Associates Degree. My last so called semester is when I found out it was a non credit school and no other colleges would accept or allow me to test out of classes. and now I owe a lot of money which I can not pay. I was never contacted when I heard they were being sued. I attempted to contact the bar association and they could not even tell me who the attorney was. I have gone to Robert Freemans office they tried and I have applied for hardships, they sent me to a government office in Easton and they could not get anywhere and no help.So now I have exhausted all my deferments. It is time to reopen this with an attorney. I also have a friend in the same position.

I Graduated 2006 and cannot transfer credits. This is the first I’m hearing about a lawsuit. How much money can be repaid for my useless degree?

I also attended Lehigh Valley College in 2005 and 2006. They charged me $30,000 for and associates in massage therapy. I was young and they told me that I would make x amount of money and that they guarantied job placement. When I graduated they never fulfilled their promise of helping find work and the amount of money I was making did not even come close to what my monthly payments were. I regret ever going there. now I have all this money I have to payback for a degree I'm not even using.

Hi all
I also went to ABS aka Lehigh Valley College in 2002 to 2003. I was never contacted about the lawsuit or to participate in it to submit my claim as well. I would have like to be and see if there is any kind of payment of money they DO owe me back for wasting my time there. I am still paying student loans to this day and it is so hard to get by and live. Private loan and federal loan I have. Wishing I would have looked at other schools slot harder and did my own research about this place and loans. Especially private loans. If you have any information on how my loans can be discharged concerning this valid complaint please contact me at my email address information I provided.

I attend LVC in the early 2000's as well. As the others have posted, I also still have mounds to repay in student loans. I never really knew how much my degree was going to cost until I graduated and received my first student loan payment! I way overpaid for a two year degree. I wish I would have looked into other schools before settling with ABS. Had I known that there was going to be an investigation, I would have gladly participated in it. Feel free to contact me if anything else should arise.

I am also a victim of Allentown Business School. The promises were never kept. I owe so much money for credits that won’t transfer as I was told they would. My degree is useless.

I called the AAMA for their exam and that program never qualified which is NOT what they told us. Just need the papers stating that's what they said. Cant get into the email system so please help.

I went to ABS in the early 2000s and was not notified about the lawsuit or class action. I'm also still paying on a student loan and can't transfer any credits. Does anyone know who can help?

I also went to ABS and am so far in debt with this and nothing is transferable. It was the biggest scam ever. I never was contacted about the lawsuit, but I certainly would like to be part of it. I am going to be paying for student loans forever and have nothing to show for it

I also graduated from Lehigh Valley college (2005) and am in so much debt since the position I secured, didn’t need a degree and my degree is as worthy as a certificate from other accredited colleges in the area. I was never asked if i wanted to be involved in the original lawsuit but i sure would have if asked - i would certainly like to be contacted about this now

I went to abs from July 2001 to March 2003 I graduated but never got what they promised, I still owe them some. Right now out of a job. Never got one in my field. Nor did I get the proper training to find a good job in my field. Any Way I can join in the current investigation or is there a way to find if they owe me any back money? Yes I am still getting bills from collectors.

I went to ABS in the early 2000's and was involved in the lawsuit against them. PHEA says they have no knowledge of this school being closed by the federal government nor of the lawsuit. I was told my loan was transferred to Leigh Valley College which I never went to. They took myself and my family for almost $90,000 over less than a yr. I was permanently disabled when I applied and PHEA allowed a non-accredited school to bilk disabled people. What can I do they are threatening to garnish my SSI check?

I went to Lehigh Valley College at the age of 47. I am so far in debt with this student loan that it is inconceivable to pay for something that is worthless and even worse, no other college will take the credits so I could continue my education. Companies will not hire me because of the reputation of this so called institution that does not exist. How do I stop this debt and end my financial misery?

I was a student there as well and the credits I received and are still paying loans on have not been transferable to any of the institutions I have tried to have them applied to since. What was the outcome of this lawsuit?

I would also like to know if anything came about this. I also went to Lehigh Valley College and the school closed, I was unable to transfer any of my credits. I am not paying immense amount of money back in interest.
