Employee Harassment

Rosemead, CA: (Jan-10-08) Valerie Mazone, a city employee, brought charges against the city, alleging that she was sexually harassed by Councilman John Nu ez from summer 2005 to January 2007. Records show that Mazone has been on administrative leave since filing the suit. In his defense, Nu ez said that on the advice of his lawyer, he's remained silent since the lawsuit was filed in April 2007, but he hasn't been able to actively defend himself. As part of a settlement reached, the city agreed to a $330,000 payout to Mazone to resolve litigation. Sources stated that the money will be paid by the city's insurance provider, not by the city or Nu ez.
