Subdivision Guards

Stockton, CA: (Jan-04-08) Two security guards, unnamed for security and confidentiality reasons, brought a lawsuit against the families of the teenage boys who attacked them in the Brookside subdivision in February 2007, alleging that they were assailed with firebombs and racial epithets. The suit stemmed from a Feb. 3 incident, where the boys, then 15 to 17, lured the guards to a secluded stretch of Spanish Bay Circle in the Brookside subdivision, where they had poured strips of gasoline across the street. The suit stated that when the guards arrived, the boys lit the gasoline, trapping the guards between two walls of flame. Then they hurled Molotov cocktails and racial insults at the guards. Records showed that one of the guards is black, and the other is a Pacific islander. The guards, both in their mid-20s, were not injured. The nine boys were arrested in February 2007 and cited on felony charges of conspiracy and using a destructive device to intimidate the guards.

As part of a settlement reached, sources close to the case stated that the guards had secured a confidential out-of-court settlement, resolving the lawsuit. The agreement stipulated that the terms of the settlement, reached under the threat of a lawsuit that could have exposed the names of the boys, some of them from prominent Stockton families, will remain under wraps, as will the names of the guards.
