Tanker Truck Accident

Tarrant County, TX: (Nov-27-07) Mary and John Reutter brought charges against United Petroleum Transports, after their car was hit by a tanker truck on Interstate 35W near Burleson. The lawsuit against the company was filed in July 2006 in 249th District Court in Johnson County. The suit sought compensation for the injuries sustained during the collision. Mary Reutter, who was driving the couple's 2002 Mustang at the time, suffered from a paralyzed left arm and only has 40% mobility in her right arm. She is unable to dress herself, drive a car or even hold her 4-month-old granddaughter. John Reutter closed his private investigation firm to care for his wife and because of his back injuries.

As part of a settlement reached, United Petroleum Transports agreed to pay the couple $5.5 million to resolve the lawsuit. Sources claimed that Donna Ferolito, who was also injured in the multivehicle collision on June 13, 2006, received a separate, undisclosed settlement. Ferolito is said to be recovering from her injuries, which included pelvic, wrist and jaw fractures, a lacerated liver and a ruptured spleen. [STAR TELEGRAM: TANKER TRUCK ACCIDENT]
