Typosquatter

Washington, DC: (Oct-16-07) The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) brought charges against John Zuccarini, a so-called typosquatter, alleging that he served pornographic advertisements on domains such as Bobthebiulder.com and teltubbies.com. Records show that five years ago, a federal court had barred Zuccarini from registering domains that are misspellings of legitimate brands, a practice called typosquatting. He was accused of ignoring the order. The recent allegations were over the fact that he engaged in practices that violated certain provisions of the order. Zuccarini was accused of using certain domain names that were transpositions or misspellings of popular domain names. As part of a settlement reached, John Zuccarini agreed to pay the FTC $164,000 to resolve the typosquatting allegations. [PC WORLD: TYPOSQUATTER]
