Supply Breach

New York, NY: (Oct-15-07) Orckit Communications Ltd., an Israel based provider of telecom equipment, brought charges against Conexant Systems Inc., a maker of chips used in communications equipment, alleging breach of contract. The suit claimed that there were breaches of a supply agreement by semiconductor chip supplier Globespanvirata Inc. between 2001 and 2003 before it was acquired by Conexant. The dispute was being considered at the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. In August 2007, records show that Orckit received an interim award of $12 million by a New York-based arbitration panel. At the time, the company said it would seek an additional award for costs related to attorneys' fees and other expenses. In a recent development in the case, Orckit claimed that it had settled its claims for a $14.2 million payout, plus attorney fees and other costs. [CNN NEWS: SUPPLY BREACH]
