Gillette, WY

Gillette, WY: (Sep-10-07) Hladky Construction Inc. brought a breach of contract lawsuit against the city of Gillette over work the company did on a City Hall project in 2000. The lawsuit stemmed from a construction project at City Hall in which the building was expanded and remodeled. Company owner Mike Hladky signed a construction contract in August 2000 and finished in August 2002. Hladky filed the lawsuit because he claimed the city breached its contract when it would not allow him to order precast concrete structures, which delayed the project a year beyond the completion date and increased costs significantly. A jury ruled in favor of Hladky in 2000 and was challenged by the city. The jury's ruling after a five-week civil trial in June 2007 stated that it had broken the covenant of good faith and fair dealing in dealing with Hladky. In a settlement reached, Hladky was awarded $1.13 million even though it agreed that the city had not breached its contract. [GILLETTE NEWS RECORD: CONSTRUCTION DELAY]
