Forsyth Township, MI

This is a settlement for the Workers Compensation lawsuit.

Forsyth Township, MI: (Aug-30-07) Forsyth Township Police Chief Brad Arnsparger brought a lawsuit against the town, alleging wrongful termination. The lawsuit, filed in November 2005, claimed that the township laid off Arnsparger in retaliation for a worker's compensation claim he filed for a back injury. Arnsparger was laid off for more than a year from August 2005 to November 2006. The layoff began during a voluntary agreement by township employees to reduce their hours or rotate weeklong layoffs among employees because of a tight general township budget. At the time of his layoff, Arnsparger had just returned from 9 1/2 weeks of medical leave due to a back injury. Two other charges in the lawsuit were against Shopko Stores Inc. for alleged negligence in supervision and interference in a business relationship between Arnsparger and the township. They were made after a videotape was provided to the board by a ShopKo employee that showed Arnsparger helping to lift computer equipment into his vehicle at a ShopKo store in Green Bay, WI, during his disability leave. The suit stated the ShopKo security department employee, who recognized Arnsparger, presented the tape to the Forsyth board to help a friend who was also an employee of Forsyth Township and who feared a layoff. In a settlement reached, the township agreed to pay Arnsparger $100,000, ending the 2-year-old lawsuit. [MINING JOURNAL: POLICE CHIEF TERMINATION]
