San Antonio, TX

San Antonio, TX: (Aug-06-07) The Department of Justice (DOJ) filed suit against the San Antonio police department, alleging that the department discriminated against a pregnant detective. The suit, filed in September 2006, claimed that the detective was reassigned on the basis of her being pregnant at the time. The DOJ stated that the action was a violation of civil rights. As part of the settlement reached, a court order mandated that San Antonio maintain nondiscriminatory policies, train and educate supervisors on the proper treatment of pregnant employees and provide monetary compensation. Police spokesman Officer Joe Rios says the policies and procedures that prompted the suit have been changed. [KTRE TV NEWS: PREGNANT DETECTIVE]
