Bloomfield Township, MI

Detroit, MI: (Aug-03-07) Michelle Horton, a former clerk, filed a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against the 48th District Court in Bloomfield Township. In December 2006, Horton received a $1 million payout in the case, though she originally won a $3 million federal court jury verdict against the court for wrongful dismissal. In a separate case filed against the township, Horton alleged in the Oakland County Circuit Court, that Bloomfield Township Clerk Sharon Law interfered with her employment. The suit claimed that Law made false statements to court officials that led to Horton's firing. In a settlement reached, Horton agreed to a $200,000 payout, ending the lawsuit against the township and Sharon Law. [DETROIT NEWS: FIRED CLERK]
