Sand Products

Manistee, MI: (Mar-21-07) A lawsuit stemmed from Sand Products' request for permission for homes to be built on a narrow strip of land between two lakes on Manistee's north side and the planning commission's denial of the request in September 2006. A final settlement was reached following Sand Products' appeal in court. In the agreement reached, Sand Products will contribute $750,000 to Manistee for use in buying the properties along Man-Made Lake. The city will combine the $750,000 with $140,000 already raised in the community to apply for a $2.26 million state grant to buy the land. Sand Products is asking for $3.15 million for the land and the Michigan Natural Resource Trust Fund requires a 25% local match for its grants. If the city fails to buy the Man-Made Lake property within two years, Sand Products can build homes on the land according to the plan the planning commission previously denied.
