Cessna, Honeywell, West Star AviationPalm Beach, FL: (Mar-21-07) Following the fatal crash of an airplane flown by Norman Lowenstein, federal investigators blamed the accident on pilot error, claiming that Lowenstein was impaired because he was loaded with over-the-counter cold medicine at 10 times the normal dosage. A lawsuit filed by Lowenstein's widow, Roberta, who got her own experts, argued that the high reading was false and the real cause was a problem with the Cessna's propeller. Roberta reached a settlement with Cessna; Honeywell, maker of some of the plane's parts; and Colorado-based West Star Aviation, which maintained the plane. Sources say that the settlement of $500,000 was paid by West Star's insurer, who also insured Lowenstein.
