Wayne County, MI

Wayne County - On December 26, 1999 Kenneth and Charlene Page, along with Charlene's mother, Ruthie Lathan, were in a minivan at the end of a driveway waiting to back out onto Karr Road. A northbound Ford Taurus driven by Benjamin Bidwell swerved to avoid a tree branch in the dirt road. His car skidded, hit a dirt ridge, became airborne and struck the minivan. The three ministers from the Spiritual Israel Church and Its Army were killed. Bidwell, 21 at the time of the accident, was critically injured but survived and pleaded no contest to negligent homicide. The Page's left their three children ages 21, 18 and 13 behind. Relatives filed a lawsuit against Wayne County for allegedly failing to properly maintain a road in the township. The county and surviving family members have agreed to a $675,000 settlement.
