Aqua Dot Bead Toy Recalled
In yet another blow to the Chinese toy-making industry, about 4.2 million Aqua Dot bead toys have been recalled, allegedly due to a chemical in the toy's coating that caused some children to become sick and vomit.
The beads can be arranged into designs, which are then fused by spraying them with water. But when swallowed, the glue turns into the toxic "date rape" drug GHB. GHB can cause euphoria, coma, seizures, the loss of one's ability to remember, and even death.
The toy "Aqua Dots" (sold in Australia as "Bindeez Beads"), was named toy of the year in Australia, and was listed as one of Wal-Mart's top 12 Christmas toys.
Three children in Australia have been hospitalized after swallowing large quantities of the beads. A 2-year-old became dizzy, vomited several times and slipped into a coma.
If you have purchased these potentially dangerous toys, you should dispose of them immediately and contact Spin Master at 1-800-622-8339 for a replacement.
