Chinese White Rabbit Candies Contain Melamine - New Zealand Health Authorities Report

FDA Now Testing Chinese Milk-Based Candies

White Rabbit Creamy Candies - one of China's most popular candies - may contain dangerous levels of melamine - according to New Zealand's Food Safety Authority. Their testing of the product revealed 180 parts per million in the candies, an amount that is 'unacceptably high.'

Consequently, the FDA is testing the candy, and other Chinese milk-derived candies, as part of the increased monitoring of Chinese milk-based products imported to the US. To date, no melamine-tainted products have been found in US stores. Nevertheless the public should be cautious regarding food products imported from China that may contain milk or milk derivatives.

The White Rabbit Creamy Candies are a milk taffy, shaped in small cylinders about half the size of a AA battery. They are packaged in a white waxed paper.
