Dostinex Valvular Heart Disease

Dostinex (cabergoline) is used to treat hyperprolactinemic disorder, certain hormone problems (excess prolactin), and is used to reduce or prevent breast milk production, except after childbirth.

dostinexDostinex may also be used for Parkinson's disease, prolactin-producing tumors and to adjust various hormone levels in certain diseases (ovarian diseases).

Dostinex, is a class of medications called "ergot-derived dopamine receptor agonists." Ergot is a fungus, and Ergot-derived dopamine receptor agonists were also present in the diet drug Fen-phen, which is also associated with heart valve disease.

Two studies have verified that Dostinex has the same dangerous side effects as fen-phen, valvular heart disease, that could result in a patient having to have valve replacement surgery, and in some cases, death has resulted. Thirty percent of people taking Dostinex are at increased risk of valvular heart disease.
