Woman Dies in Springfield Accident

A 26-year-old woman from Lowry City, Missouri, died in a recent Springfield accident on Missouri 13, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to the crash report, Dawn Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle accident, which was just north of Lowry City. Lowry City is located in St. Clair County and has a population of less than 1,000 people, according to the 2000 census.

The crash report also indicated that 35-year-old Teresa Colby of Osceola sustained serious injuries in the accident and was taken to St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Colby was reportedly behind the wheel of the 2011 Cadillac SRX that veered off of the left side of the road and overturned a number of times in the median.

Both women were reportedly ejected from the vehicle upon impact and neither woman was wearing a seat belt, according to the highway patrol crash report.

According to the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 878 traffic fatalities in the state of Missouri in 2009.
