A Springfield man died recently after a Missouri motorcycle crash near Stotts City, according to the state highway patrol.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that 39-year-old Richard Nerren was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Missouri 97 in Lawrence County. Nerren was reportedly traveling north on the highway on his Honda motorcycle when he tried to pass two vehicles, according to a patrol accident report.

As Nerren tried to pass, the driver of one of the vehicles, a Dodge 3500 pickup truck, attempted to turn left and Nerren crashed into the side of the truck, the news provider said.

According to the news source, there were no other injuries reported in the motorcycle accident.

The accident report indicates that the 2003 Dodge pickup received moderate damage in the accident.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Web site, just over one percent of all Missouri traffic crashes in 2009 involved motorcycles. That year, there were a total of 878 traffic fatalities in the state, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
