According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, a 63-year-old man and a 13-year-old girl were killed in a recent Kansas City truck accident, the Lawrence Journal World reports.

Master Deputy Tom Erickson said that two vehicles, including a pickup truck, were involved in a head-on collision near Kansas City. Erickson said that the pickup truck was traveling west and collided with the car heading east, but the accident was still being investigated.

The car was reportedly being driven by 41-year-old Lisa Apperson and there were three passengers in the vehicle, all under the age of 14. Milton Whaley, 63, was reportedly driving the truck and all of the people involved in the accident were from the Gardner, Missouri area, according to Erickson.

Hannah Apperson, 13, died at the scene, while Whaley reportedly died later at Overland Park Regional Hospital, the news provider said.

The two other children remained hospitalized at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Lisa Apperson was hospitalized in Overland Park, Erickson said.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, there were 126 total fatalities as a result of head-on collisions in the state during 2009.
