Lawsuit Filed over Illinois Nursing Home Abuse

. By Charles Benson

A lawsuit has been filed against Maple Ridge Care Centre over alleged Illinois nursing home abuse, the Bloomingdale Press reports.

The lawsuit comes after the for-profit facility was previously fined $10,000 after the death of 32-year-old Keri Daugherty in March 2009, according to the news provider. The fine was levied due to allegations that the facility failed to resuscitate Daugherty, the news source said.

Daugherty's death reportedly occurred three months before an alleged lack of attention and care for 63-year-old Carol Harrison. Harrison's husband Thomas recently filed a civil lawsuit against Maple Ridge in Macon County Circuit Court.

According to the lawsuit, the facility's 16-hour delay in noticing problems with Harrison that were later diagnosed as deep-vein thrombosis ultimately led to her leg being amputated and caused her to die earlier than she should have. Harrison died on August 1, 2009, according to the lawsuit.

Maple Ridge Care Centre is a nursing home that specializes in pulmonary diseases, physical therapy and wound care, according to its Web site.
