Qantas Concludes US Freight Class Action

Sydney, AU: Qantas Airline said it will pay up to US$26.5 million as part of a settlement to resolve its liability under a freight class action in the US.

The class action commenced in 2006 against a number of airlines regarding activities in their freight departments.

As part of the settlement reached today, the Australian flag carrier will pay back the US$26.5 million it made in freight revenue to and from the US.

Qantas will also be required to cooperate with the class action plaintiffs but will be released from claims made by direct purchasers of air cargo services during the period from January 2000 to 11 September 2006.

Among the other airlines, Air France reached an agreement of up to US$87 million, Lufthansa US$85 million, Scandinavian Airlines US$13.9 million, Japan Airlines US$12 million and American Airlines reached a US$5 million agreement.
