New York Police Department

Last year, nine African American and Latino police officers were awarded a $503,000 racial discrimination settlement. Now, the same officers have filed a civil rights class action claiming workplace racial discrimination persists and police officers have continued to be threatened with arbitrary transfers, denied preferred assignments and requests for overtime, and given negative evaluations after years of receiving positive reviews. The class includes officers assigned to Transit District 4, which covers most of the transit system on Manhattan's East Side.
