Diamond Pet Foods

A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status against the dog food manufacturer after more than 100 dogs died. In the fall of 2005, Diamond shipped thousands of bags of dog food before realizing some contained aflatoxin, a poisonous fungus, which grew in overly moist corn used to make the food. The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Knoxville, TN and claims the company was negligent and breached warranties and unfair trade practices. A Clemson University lab in Columbia found some of the food contained 21 times the level of aflatoxin allowed by the US Food and Drug Administration.
