$19M Settlement Reached in Medical Malpractice Lawsuit

This is a settlement for the Medical Malpractice lawsuit.

Santa Clara, CA: A $19 million settlement has been reached in a medical malpractice lawsuit brought by a pregnant woman against a Northeastern Pennsylvania hospital and obstetrician.

Court documents reportedly show that in December 2012 Marissa Vaccaro was admitted to the labor and delivery unit at Scranton Quincy, which operates as Moses Taylor Hospital, with signs of a potentially life-threatening placental abruption.

The lawsuit stemmed from brain injury to the new born sustained, according to the plaintiff, as a result of a decision made by Dr. Raymond C. DeCesare, the attending obstetrician, to perform an ultrasound prior to performing a C-section. DeCesare examined the plaintiff when she arrived in hospital and determined she needed an immediate C-section, but she didn’t have the C-section for a further 84 minutes, until an ultrasound had been performed.

As an alleged result of the treatment, Emma Vaccaro was born "'profoundly hypoxic'" and without a detectable heart rate for 12 minutes, leaving her with brain injury, visual impairment, seizure disorder and renal failure, according to court records. Marissa Vaccaro also claims to have sustained injuries from excessive blood loss and internal bleeding, and suffers from depression as a result. Vaccaro claimed that DeCesare should have diagnosed the placental abruption clinically.

The suit included claims of negligence against DeCesare and vicarious liability claims against Moses Taylor and related entities, as well as a corporate negligence claim against Moses Taylor and a claim for negligent infliction of emotional distress.

I have several starting with st.bernards. that caused me plenty of pain and confusion. Uams in paragould ar also had to children there, also been to ER a few times for several things. But Conway behavioral paragould County jail and st. Bernard's should all be held accountable for how I was treated and tricked into signing papers that I had no idea what I was signing or why.
