Correctional Facility Pays $10.5M Settlement for Wrongful Death
This is a settlement for the Wrongful Death lawsuit.
Ashland, TN: A wrongful death suit brought against the city of Philadelphia, Chad Youth Enhancement Services Inc., and its parent company, Universal Health Services Inc, by the Paulette Dolby, the administratrix of the estate of Omega "Manny" Leach, has been settled for $10,500,000.
The suit alleged that the death of 17-year old Leach in June 2007 was not only preventable but predictable. His death was the second such incident at the facility. Evidence provided during the settlement talks clearly showed that Leach was being choked by an employee of the facility, Mr. Rae. A nurse who arrived on the scene reportedly found Leach was not breathing and did not have a pulse.
The Chad Youth facility paid the full settlement amount.
