Texas Settles with Disabled Drivers for $24 Million

- by

Austin, TX: The state of Texas has agreed to pay a $24 million settlement in the class action brought against the Department of Transportation by disabled drivers.

The suit was originally filed more than 12 years ago, alleging that the $5 fee the state charged for disabled parking placards violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The settlement is preliminary, but if passed will see a $19.2 million fund established that will provide reimbursement to disabled drivers who bought light blue parking passes between 1997 and 2008.
