Northeast Health to Pay Nurses $1.25M in Wages Suit

This is a settlement for the Employment lawsuit.

A settlement has been reached in a wages lawsuit brought by nurses working in Albany area hospitals and operated by Northeast Health. The suit alleged that the hospitals had 'colluded' to keep the nurses' wages low.

The hospitals named in the suit were Northeast Health, Albany Medical Center, St. Peter's Health Care Services, Ellis Hospital, Seton Health and St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Similar lawsuits were also filed against hospitals in Chicago, Memphis, San Antonio and Detroit.

Northeast, which operates Samaritan Hospital and Albany Memorial Hospital ,is the first to settle, and has agreed to pay $1.25 million.

The suit was filed in 2006 by 2 nurses on behalf of 2,500 nurses working in the Albany area. Estimates suggest that each nurse could have lost as much as $6,000 a year in compensation.
