Landlord to Pay $5.5 Million in Class Action Settlement
This is a settlement for the Housing, Landlord, Tenant lawsuit.
A California Landlord has been found guilty of withholding in excess of $180,000 in security deposits over the past 10 years, and must pay his ex-tenants a total of $5.5 million in fines and reimbursements.
Richard Thomas, the landlord of a number of apartment buildings and single family homes in Oakland, was sued in a class action by some 200 of his former tenants.
Reportedly, each former tenant could potentially be awarded between $1,600 and $14,000 in reimbursements and fines.
