Compellent, Storage Engine, et. al. agree to $10.5 million settlement in technology lawsuit.

Houston, TX: (May-27-08) Data protection specialist Crossroads Systems has brought lawsuits against 10 vendors, including Compellent and Storage Engine, alleging that the companies infringed on its storage router and virtualization technologies. The suit, filed in US District Court for the Western District of Texas, has followed several such lawsuits filed between STEC and Seagate, NetApp and Sun and Quantum and Riverbed, all over storage related disputes.

Apart from naming Compellent and Storage Engine, other vendors named in the suit include Accusys, Auragen Technologies, Digi-Data Corp., Rave Computer Association, Ci Design Europe, Arena-Maxtronic, Baydel North America, and Inline Corp. Court papers reveal that earlier, Crossroads brought suit against Dot Hill, alleging that in infringed patents 6,425,035 and 5,941,972, which control access between hosts and storage devices in a networked storage environment.

As part of a settlement reached between the parties, Dot Hill made a $10.5 million cash payment to Crossroads and agreed to pay 2.5% ongoing royalties on net sales of products that use Crossroads technologies. Since then, Crossroads has gone ahead and sued several other companies, in its industry wide intellectual property campaign.
