NASCAR settles wrongful death of handicapped race fan lawsuit.

This is a settlement for the Car Accidents (National) lawsuit.

Lorain County, OH: (May-27-08) The family of Virginia Whyel, a 65-year old race fan, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against NASCAR, after Whyel died in a fatal crash while watching the race in a wheelchair. Court papers reveal that Whyel was watching the race in a wheelchair located in the specially designated handicapped section at the short track located in Amherst, OH. At the time, two racecars went out of control and crashed into the stands.

Court papers reveal that NASCAR agreed to resolve the suit with a settlement on the first day of trial. Members of the Whyel family said that they thought that security should be beefed up and that NASCAR should step up and take a role in safety at the short tracks, NASCAR officials refused to release any details of the cash settlement and did not admit any responsibility or liability in the case.
