Disability Discrimination

Olympia, WA: (May-22-08) A class action lawsuit was brought against the state Corrections Department, alleging that it did not provide disabled offenders with equal access to work-release sites. The suit was brought by lead plaintiff Rickey Peralez, an arthritis sufferer, who stated in his 2006 suit that he was denied work release at a site in Tacoma because he used a wheelchair and couldn't climb stairs to the second-floor dormitory.

As part of a settlement reached in the case, state Corrections Department announced that it will pay about $300,000 to resolve the class action allegations. $30,000 will go to the main plaintiff and $1,800 each to 166 offenders who were part of lawsuit. Additionally, the Department said that it will also change the way it assigns inmates to work-release facilities, and will pay lawyer's fees as determined by US District Court. I am filing for social security disability and I believe they have someone in office trying to deny me so that I can appeal. There is no reason for an appeal because all of the facts are right there. They are trying to stall because someone in office knows my where abouts and timing. this is discrimination and I want to file a lawsuit. I am still waiting for my results and I also gave them case laws in relevants to the case. I have a lot more information. Please email me and tell me where I stand with this. Thank you
