Public Nudity

Daytona, FL: (May-05-08) Elizabeth Book, a topless protester, brought charges against Daytona Beach, alleging that she was wrongly arrested for nudity. Records show that 45-year-old Book has shown her breasts publicly since 2004 in protest of the city's public nudity ordinance. Court documents reveal that she was arrested in March 2004 and again in July 2005.

The dispute surrounding the nudity began in 1993, when during Bike Week; Book was breastfeeding her daughter and was told by an officer that she could be fined for public nudity. She then sued the city seeking $100,000. Her suit stated that the city was liable for negligence, false arrest and malicious prosecution.

In a recent development in the case, sources reported that Book would receive $15,000 on her claims for damages from the city. The settlement is pending approval from the city. [CENTRAL FLORIDA NEWS: TOPLESS PROTESTER COULD SETTLE WITH CITY]
