Police Harassment

Detroit, MI: (Apr-23-08) James Sherrod, a former police officer, brought a wrongful termination lawsuit against the city of Sylvan Lake, alleging that he had been sexually harassed by his boss. The suit claimed that Police Chief Mark Silver asked Sherrod to have sex with him, a claim that Silver denied. Sherrod had been with the department for about a year when he was fired in May 2007.

Sherrod filed suit in June 2007, stating that he was not given a reason for his termination. Court records showed that a resident testified that Silver commented on the size of his genitalia when Silver arrived at the man's home for a routine call. The man answered the door wearing boxer briefs.

Sources close to the case stated that a settlement has been reached in the case, in which the City of Sylvan Lake agreed to pay Sherrod $300,000 to resolve allegations. [DETROIT FREE PRESS: CITY GIVES EX-COP $300,000 IN HARASSMENT SUIT]
