Insufficient Notice

Monroe, MI: (Apr-22-08) John Raab, former interim superintendent at the Dundee Community Schools District, brought a lawsuit against the district, alleging that the district did not notify him three months before he was to be released from his contract, thereby violating a state law that mandates the notice to be served. Raab subsequently filed his case with an arbiter. The district, in its defense stated that Raab clearly knew he was in the superintendent's position on a temporary basis since he signed a one-year contract. Board President Paula Fisk said that Raab even refused an evaluation, though she acknowledged that the board failed to notify Raab that it was not renewing his one-year contract within the three-month time frame. Following negotiations, the two sides reached a settlement, in which Dundee Community Schools agreed to pay Raab $37,505 to resolve litigation. Court records show that Raab was originally seeking $50,000. [MONROE NEWS: DISTRICT, FORMER INTERIM CHIEF REACH DEAL]
