Police Brutality

Denver, CO: (Apr-22-08) A federal lawsuit was brought against the city of Denver by David Nettles, who claimed that he was manhandled during a wrongful arrest. The suit, filed in US District Court over the December 2003 incident, named the city Police Chief Gerry Whitman and Officers Damian Naranjo, Michael Nuanes Jr. and Zachary Phillips as defendants. In his suit, Nettles alleged that as a result of the officers mishandling him, his shoulder was shattered and his arm broken. The officers were accused of forcing Nettle's arms into handcuffs that were too short for his girth. As part of a settlement reached in the excessive force and wrongful arrest lawsuit, city sources confirmed that the Denver City Council had granted initial approval to a $75,000 to resolve the lawsuit.
