Young Quarterback's Death

Austin, TX: (Apr-16-08) The family of 17-year-old Will Benson brought a wrongful death lawsuit against St. Stephen's School, following a September 2002 football incident, when Benson suffered a cerebral brain hemorrhage that resulted in his death. The suit claimed that the school was negligent and that it contributed to the untimely death of the young Austin quarterback. Investigations carried out by arbitrators revealed that the school did not commit any act of negligence and therefore did not validate the imposing of any punitive damages.

In a recent development in the case, sources familiar with the negotiations stated that the school had reached a settlement in the lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement agreement, the school agreed to pay Benson's family just over $1 million to resolve the wrongful death allegations.
