Patrolman Causes Fatal Accident

Columbus, OH: (Mar-25-08) The family of Lori Smith brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the state of Ohio, after the Ohio woman and two Highway Patrol troopers were killed in a fiery crash. The suit claimed that a highway patrol car collided with Smith's pickup truck in Gallapolis in 2006, killing Smith, Trooper Joshua Risner and Sgt. Dale Holcomb. The suit brought by the family alleged that Risner was speeding and had improperly activated his emergency lights just before the crash.

Sources close to the case stated that the two sides had reached a settlement agreement, resolving the wrongful death claims. Under the terms of the deal, the state of Ohio has agreed to pay Smith's family $1.1 million to resolve allegations. Sources stated that the final settlement has to be filed in court, resolving the year old suit. [WTAP NEWS: CRASH SETTLEMENT IN THE WORKS]
