Boss Rapes Employee

Norwich, NY: (Mar-24-08) A young Norwich woman, who wishes to stay unnamed, filed a complaint with the New York State Division of Human Rights, after a spate of unnerving incidents, including being raped by her boss. The 19-year old woman was raped by her boss in October 2006, in his former apartment on Broad Street in Norwich. Her mother stated that her daughter continued to go to work as she was threatened that she would otherwise be fired. The girl was employed at the Quizno's in Norwich, which is no longer in business.

Her compliant stated that the owner, Dale Blackwood, became controlling and possessive, made the girl buy a cell phone, and began harassing her through text messages. When it became too much to handle, the girl confided in her mother. The two brought the situation to the District Attorney's office, which couldn't do anything because there wasn't enough physical evidence. Since the girl's employment was at risk, she went to the Labor Department, and that led her to the State Division of Human Rights.

As part of a settlement reached in the case, Commissioner Kumiki Gibson awarded the girl $500,000 in damages. The New York State Division of Human Rights said that Blackwood has a record of harassing female employees and that they had received complaints from other women against him. The young woman says she will continue to pursue criminal charges. [NEWS CHANNEL 34: NORWICH SEX ASSAULT SETTLEMENT]
